and the HMV Stainless Steel Bar-end Weights

Adjustable Riostat – This is a $40 option, but worth it.

Temp is now fully adjustable.

Non Throttle Side – I put a rubber space in there so the grips

Would be the same length as the other side with the Vista Cruise

Notes:

The Hot Grips Website

The grips work great – they get hot and do keep your hands warm, even through thick gloves.  I won’t go into a lot of detail here other than to agree with all the other great reviews of this product.  The only minor drawback is that the grips are THICK – if you have small hands, they will take some getting used to.

Purchase Notes:

  1. I ordered the longer 5.25” grips so that I could use the Stainless Steel Bar-ends from HVM Parts (the ones designed for the CBR).
  2. I also opted for the Variable Heat Controller (extra $49) and an Epoxy Kit ($3).
  3. Spacers and longer bolts needed to use the OEM bar-end weights are included.

Installation Notes:

  1. I followed the Hot Grips installation to the letter.  Read the entire instructions BEFORE you start!
  2. When epoxying the grips on, use a VERY THIN layer, but cover the entire area – if you put it on too thick, it bunches up as you slide the grip on (messy).  Alcohol or WD40 will remove spills if you act quickly.
  3. Make sure you wire the grips to a switched circuit if you are using the Variable Heat Controller – even at it’s lowest setting, it does draw a little amperage – so you want the grips powered off when you shut off the key.
  4. Note:  There is no fuse included, so I suggest you put a 5amp inline fuse in or hook it up to an additional fuse block (like I did – see my “Accessory Fuse Block” farkle).
  5. Wiring - I used solder - I wouldn't recommend twist nuts as they have a tendency to vibrate loose after awhile.  I soldered the connections, then put shrink tubing over each one with tiny tie wraps at each end to relieve the stress.
  6. I mounted the Variable Heat Controller 1 1/2 inches below the TCS/ABS switches - this area is very accessible by just removing the plastic over the valve cover.  I used 3 standard washers on the underside of the Variable Heat Controller to lower its exposed height so it wouldn't stick out so far.
  7. I have a Vista Cruise, so I left it on while applying the throttle side grip and it worked fine.
